Dental as Anything: A Gold Coast dentist for people who are afraid of the dentist
You know dentists have a hard sell at the best of times. I mean there aren’t too many folks who like someone poking around their teeth. But if you add fear to the equation, then it’s even harder to make a visit to the dentist an attractive option.
As a Gold Coast dentist with 30 plus years experience, I’ve seen just about everything. What I’ve learned is that no amount of fear should keep a person from experiencing the kind of dental care that allows them to enjoy their teeth. For life.
It’s why we focus on prevention.
I can see your eyes glaze over right now. Great, what does that even mean Dr Mark?
Let me explain.
But I’m scared of the dentist [here’s what to do]
We understand that *a lot* of patients come to us highly anxious and fearful. Maybe they’ve had a negative experience. Or they’re worried about the cost.
If that’s you, just be aware your fear is what stands between you and your very best self.
One thing I’ve learned is that visiting the dentist – one who has you at its heart – is way less scary than not seeing the dentist.
We live at a time when poor oral health and physical health are at epidemic levels. Thanks to sugar, there has been a rise in many avoidable conditions, including obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
Sometimes the impact of sugar is obvious. It rots teeth, decay enters the nerve, and a person experiences pain.
However, sometimes the impact of poor oral health can be sneaky. Some people can eat sugar and their teeth aren’t affected – and this is a more serious problem.
Did you know it’s possible to lose the bone around teeth? It can shrink and shrink and shrink – with no pain at all.
But that’s not the worst of it.
While tooth decay and gum disease are excellent reasons not to avoid the dentist, the very best reason to make your next appointment now is the bacteria in your mouth.
Not only does it affect teeth if left untreated, it also affects your overall health, including your heart and brain.
When new patients join our family, a key message I share is that it doesn’t matter where you are on your dental health journey – even if you have great fear at the beginning – after two years, you will be a different person. You just won’t be the same. Promise.
How do I take better care of my oral health? [follow the lead of this Gold Coast dentist]
I’d love to say that taking better care of your oral health is rocket science, but it’s not. It really is simple, however sticking with it may not be so easy if you don’t know how. That’s why support is so important. Hello Dental as Anything team.
Another thing I tell my patients is follow my lead.
I’m a male. I have to keep things really simple. Just ask my wife. 😉
Here’s what I do.
I floss regularly (at least once a day).
I brush three times every day.
And I have my teeth cleaned regularly with a hygienist.
That’s it. Not rocket science. Just simple actionable steps. One day after another.
What this means is that if I can do it, guess what? You can too, friend.
Instead of walking around and wondering what’s happening in your mouth, you’ll gain a crystal clear understanding.
We’ll show you photos.
We’ll talk to you like you’re a person (because, hey, that’s what you are).
We’ll explain everything to you.
We’ll respect you. Our practice is a completely judgement-free zone.
And we’ll present options and opportunities.
Instead of feeling you’re directed, you’ll have a voice. And you will be heard.
You have control. Phew.
Find a dentist who looks ahead [and start your journey how]
The best dentist will take care of what’s happening now and look ahead and educate you about the future potential challenges.
That way, preventive measures can be put in place. You know, things like regular flossing, brushing, and hygiene cleans.
My final message is ‘start now’. If fear is holding you back, let’s launch the reinvention of your dental experience with our signature Comprehensive Oral Health Assessment (COHA). And if you feel you’re no wiser about the potential and possibilities after this experience, we’ll refund the cost. Like, all of it. No questions.
Now that’s ‘good as news’ – and just another way we’ve reinvented dental.
